The Republic Day is always a great day to explore Rome, as tourists and Romans.
Starting from the military parade along the streets of the historic center, there are many initiatives to enjoy the city of Rome.
One of these is the opening of the gardens of the municipal buildings: Palazzo del Quirinale, Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Giustiniani.
In addition, the “Sundays at the museum” initiative continues in Rome with free admission to many parks, museums, galleries, events, archaeological areas, (etc.) in Rome.

Pre-Republic Day Celebrations Saturday 1 June
On Saturday, 3 special events will be held at the historic Palazzo del Quirinale:
- 15:00 – Solemn change of the Guard of Honor by the Corazzieri Regiment on horseback with the Fourth Regiment Carabinieri on horseback.
- 18.00 – “Concert for the Republic” of the Orchestra and Chorus of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia conducted by Maestro Antonio Pappano, in honor of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Italian State;
- 19.00 – Traditional meeting in the Quirinale Gardens.
Military Parade and Frecce Tricolore 2 June in Rome
On June 2, the annual military parade will be held in the downtown streets.
The theme of 2019 chosen by the Ministry of Defense, will be “Inclusion”.
The parade will start at 10 am in Via dei Fori Imperiali.
Besides the evocative military parade, June 2 is an excellent opportunity to see the famous “Frecce tricolore” at work.
As every year they will leave from Pratica Di Mare and fly over Rome. Their flight in formation will be visible from almost all the Roman territory.
Extraordinary openings of museums, gardens and villas on Republic Day
On June 2, in honor of the Republic Day, the famous Quirinale Gardens will be open to the public from 15.00 to 19.00.
In conjunction with the opening to the public, the band complexes of the various police forces will perform in concert.
Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Giustiniani are also open to the public.
Given that June 2nd this year coincides with the first Sunday of the month, those who visit the Capital on this day will also have access to a series of museums, archaeological areas and galleries free of charge.
For example: Palazzo Massimo, Terme di Diocleziano, Terme di Caracalla and Scavi di Ostia Antica.

But be careful, even if the initiative is very tempting, we warn that it also attracts many visitors, registering indeed many accesses to museums and archaeological sites.
So, if you opt for a visit to a free museum, you will have to consider having to do a lot of lines too.
Tour of Rome by bike in June
